Department for Education
South Australia's Department for Education has published its strategy for public education — a clear framework built around four areas of impact that define the priorities driving meaningful, system-wide change across our schools. These four areas are deeply connected to one another, underpinned by a shared set of outcomes, a strong evidence base, and clear measures of success — so we can all see how we're tracking and where to focus next.
At Blackwood High School, this is not new territory. We have been working closely with the key elements of this strategy for some time, and our School Improvement Plans have always reflected that commitment. In 2024, we refreshed our School Improvement Plan to strengthen that alignment even further — setting a clear direction for the innovation and growth we're focused on delivering for your young person in the years ahead.

Effective Learning Strategies at Blackwood High School
At Blackwood High School, we focus on explicit strategic awareness to develop effective, independent learners. Throughout our classes and care groups, teachers and students actively engage with a variety of learning strategies. These evidence-based methods are modelled explicitly in class, practised frequently, and recommended for study sessions both at school and at home. Our student leadership group is also a key driver in promoting effective learning strategies to the student body, encouraging them to work smarter, not just harder.
